READING: Before his band's show tonight at the Music Gallery, Drew Daniel of electronic duo Matmos will be reading from his tribute to Throbbing Gristle's album 20 Jazz Funk Greats (as part of the 33 1/3 book series). This Ain't the Rosedale Library (86 Nassau Street), 1 p.m., FREE.

MUSIC: The Eagles are a cover band. They cover songs by a 1970s rock group, also named The Eagles (weird!). The two bands are very similar, except one of them has young, virile members, and the other has very old, less mobile, decidedly unvirile members. Tonight, the latter plays the first of three dates at the Air Canada Centre. If you're going, expect to be overwhelmed by the smell of marijuana and the incessant cries for them to play some song about some hotel in some state. LECTURE: The successful Trampoline Hall lecture series returns tonight to Sneaky Dee's. Actress Athena Karkanis will be speaking, along with short-filmmaker Jamie Travis and author Nell Waldman. The event is curated by Erica Kopyto. Sneaky Dee's, 8 p.m. sharp (no latecomers will be admitted). Advanced tickets are available at Soundscapes for $6. Rush tickets are available at the door for $5 (starting at 6:30 p.m.)

SPORTS: The Canadian Open (the golf thing) kicks off today with the first of two Pro-Am competitions (the tournament itself starts Thursday, and runs until Sunday). Today's Pro-Am consists of 26 professional golfers, each with three amateur playing partners. Appearances will likely be made by Canadian fan favourites Mike Weir and Stephen Ames. In case you missed the application deadline to take part in the Pro-Am, you can use the $5,000 you saved to go buy a television, or put a down payment on a condo or something.
