Urban Planner: July 27, 2008

20080727urbanplanner.jpgFESTIVAL: Kensington Market's Pedestrian Sunday is today! This month's theme is "Water! Streams of Consciousness"—not to be confused with a tribute to Virginia Woolf's life and death. The magic of water will be celebrated through sea shanty sing-alongs, message-in-a-bottle crafts, and something the event's website refers to as a "water challenge." Most importantly, no cars allowed! Augusta Avenue (south of College), 1 p.m., FREE.

LECTURE: Today, a lecture on weeds (not Weeds or weed). Environmentalist group Evergreen is giving a talk on how to manage invasive weed species in gardens and other natural areas. Brick Works (550 Bayview Avenue), 1:30 p.m., PWYC ($5 suggested).

MUSIC: Avant-garde Los Angeles musician Ariel Pink is in town, playing at the Whippersnapper Gallery this evening. Joining him are electronic trio Chairlift, experimental group Romo Roto, and local folk singer Andre Charles Theriault. Whippersnapper Gallery (587A College Street), 7 p.m., $10.
