The World's Largest Christmas Stocking?! For Free?!

20080718SonyCentre1.jpg

Getting free stuff is always nice. Getting ridiculous free stuff that has no actual purpose to everyday Canadians is sometimes nicer. On July 23, the Sony Centre For The Performing Arts will be opening its doors and giving away a whole bunch of random useless junk. That is probably the only time you will see a multination corporation like Sony and the words “giving away” in the same sentence, so relish it while you can, even if it’s not really Sony doing the giving.

Have you ever wanted the world’s largest Christmas stocking? Think of all the presents you’ll get this year! How about your very own red carpet? How about three of your very own red carpets? Do you want four pictures? What are they of? The website doesn’t specify—the thrill is in the mystery! Your very own podium would be nice; set it up anywhere in the city for an instant lecture/awards ceremony/high school assembly. If you have four table legs waiting for the right top, then check out the 60” tabletops (no legs). There are far too many items to mention here, so check out the website for a complete list.

The main doors of the Sony Centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23. If you’re lucky you’ll get one of the three gurneys that they have; otherwise you might want to bring a truck.

The crowds are going to be huge.

Some of the stuff is awesome, imagine having a ticket bin with a garbage bin at the entrance of your apartment? Or a baby changing station in your bathroom. Cool!

At the very bottom of the list is the word "stationary"--referring to writing materials.

Don't they know how to spell?

I was first in line at 6:30am and scored some cool stuff for my work, including red carpets and other front-of-house things. The 40ft x 90ft stocking went to the guys who were third in line behind me. It wasn't as big of a crowd as I thought it would be, maybe thirty people or so. Sony Centre opened the doors early though, so people who arrived on time got screwed - everything was claimed by 10:05am.

@MariaPD:

I did score one of those ticket bins! They're heavy but sturdy, and there's three more that went unclaimed, so if you still want one you might be in luck.
