    … Steak?

Yeah – that post office charges an extra 50 cents or so for any debit card purchase too.

Or you can just go to http://overheard.it and have it posted immediately.
    Get your own idea’s Torontoist…

  • lizzyby

no way tothegreat, I like this. Overheard it got it from http://www.overheardinnewyork.com anyways. Torontoist should continue collecting and posting these, there’s tons of awkward entertaining people in this city waiting to be overheard!

It’s not like there’s any shortage of nearly identical sites out there, or that any can claim being the only site allowed to do something, but if you’re going to idiotically accuse someone of copying another site you might want to check that the timeline matches your assumptions.

There’s this old problem about ‘form’ and ‘content.’ Like if an idea’s good, but hard to see. Mostly we get hung up on the form, like if this idea of ‘the overheard’ is legit – who did it first? But what “matters” (materializes) is the content, right? Besides this ‘overheard’ thing is like a doorway between mine and yours.

    it makes me feel smug.

I’m surprised Canada Post doesn’t require franchisees to accept credit cards. I once tried to buy a good quantity of stamps at this Yonge & Eglinton outlet but they insisted on cash, so I left. Their hours also are not very good.

I HATE WHEN CASHIERS DO THINGS LIKE THAT
I was paying for a bagel and coffee yesterday. It came to $3.75, so I handed the lady $5. She looked at it, looked at me, and asked “Do you have 75 cents?” It pisses me off enough when they ask me if I have enough change. Hey, if it was like, one cent, maybe, but I worked at a bank long enough to know that it’s really not that fucking hard to spend an extra second digging out a loonie AND a quarter rather than just a loonie.
How are we supposed to get our own idea’s Torontoist? There is already a Torontoist! That would be taking ideas from elsewhere!

    *extra change

  • Dillon McManamy

I think cashiers do it not because they’re lazy but to conserve change in their tills. When you’re at a bank you have an abundance of it available, but when you work at a busy downtown store conserving change for rush crowds is an asset… believe me.
I had a funny encounter yesterday:
*Inspecting an airbrush at the front counter*
Stoned Dude: Whoa man, that’s a boss pipe.
Me: Ah, no, actually it’s an airbrush.
    Stoned Dude: A what brush?
Me: You know, and airbrush, you hook it up to a compressor… it blows air.
Stoned Dude: Whoa, it can blow you a super? How much do you want for it.
