I had to look him up. This was funny because I didn’t know who it was.

  • David Topping

I’ve removed a personal comment from this comment thread that was not appropriate. Gothamist’s comment policy can be found here.

  • matty

What did the inappropriate comment say?

  • sloanbuller

Was his comment really that inappropriate? I’m pretty sure he was commenting on the quality of the drawing, and not the illustrator’s actually anatomy. Maybe not in the best taste, but certainly no worse than most of Christopher Bird’s news posts.

  • David Topping

Yes, it was inappropriate; yes, it was to the point where it should have been unpublished; and no, I won’t repeat it. I don’t like to moderate comments (it’s the first one I’ve removed in months—matty, you called me a fucking idiot and it was kept published) but this was absolutely justified.

Y’know, I have stared at that menu countless times. I can’t for the life of me recall that Bacchus offers ackee & saltfish.

  • Ben

In case anyone wanted to see the removed comment, here is an encrypted version:

I thought it said something about how the drawing is good but the hands need better work or something.
I mean the dude’s arm is a little funny looking, no?

  • Svend

I didn’t think my comment was inappropriate, I didn’t mean to offend anyone.
I only commented on the drawing, nothing to do with the artist personally.
If it was “Blondie” drawn by a man, my comment wouldn’t have been removed.

  • David Topping

The comment wasn’t removed because it was critical of the comic. You, matty, more than anyone, know that we don’t typically moderate those kinds of comments. And if your comment was on a completely different comic drawn by a completely different person, Svend, maybe it wouldn’t have been removed. But the context played a big part in what made it inappropriate. You’re not going to convince me otherwise. So let’s move on.

Ok can I say one thing? Project Runway Canada is not Project Runway.

  • rek

I would watch Project Roti Canada.

  • katiech

hmm…. “kevin” and “evan” sound quite similar and it could have been that the roti server heard incorrectly and evan (didn’t they refer to him as biddell?) just didn’t correct him or her… i would hope that he’d be creative enough to make up a name that doesn’t sound like his own name when picking a fake name…

  • spacejack

On the topic of local celebrities, I saw Moe Berg pushing a baby stroller yesterday. I guess he really is an adult now. badum-tsh!

  • Carly Beath

Weird, I also saw Evan Biddell ordering delicious foods the other day. Mine was at a coffee shop, though.

I love Bacchus roti but, jeez – they are so slow that dude in the comic is prolly still there…
