Do you know what this is? This is one of those articles in which a member of the media tells the public to catch the "next big thing" before they start selling out large venues. In this case, it’s a comedian by the name of Jeff McEnery.

Like all other Canadian comics, you probably recognize McEnery from the plethora of commercials he has done and the obligatory stint on Video on Trial. He hasn’t had a guest spot of Corner Gas yet—but it’s really just a matter of time.

Since becoming the youngest member of Yuk Yuk’s roster in 2005, McEnery has been making his way in the Canadian comedy scene. In 2006 he won Yuk Yuk’s $25,000 Great Canadian Laugh Off (NSFW), and over the years, a bunch of other awards and competitions. Most importantly however, he’s really, really funny.

McEnery comes from Acton, Ontario, and a lot of his jokes draw from his experiences living in the small town. He’s like a Canadian version of Jeff Foxworthy, but not lame and much funnier. His (McEnery's, not Foxworthy's) jokes are lewd and potentially offensive but always tell very personal stories flavoured with self-deprecation that fringes on manic depression (the hilarious kind). Really, he's not like Foxworthy at all, but likening the young upstart to a hardened veteran is the way of the media.
