At an event yesterday to show off Toronto's new street furniture, David Miller praised the exclusive deal with Astral Media. The contract includes a measly 1,000 new bicycle posts, because God knows we don't want to encourage cycling in downtown Toronto. The contract also includes new public toilet installations which are billed as being "self-cleaning," to which Torontoist can only issue a collective "shyeeeeah, right."

Oil prices dropped slightly yesterday, but nobody thinks it's going to stick. Mostly because it turns out everybody wants oil, and not everybody can get oil. Torontoist has a couple of barrels of light, sweet crude in the basement that it is holding on to for a rainy day. Someday, that oil's gonna get us power. And then we get the women.

Canadian restaurants pulled raw tomatoes off their menus in response to an outbreak of salmonella in tainted Roma tomatoes in the United States. Salmonella is traditionally transmitted to humans by eating food contaminated with animal feces, so think about that the next time you want some ripe red tomatoes, and then think about what they might have been sitting in.

Finally, the Jays lost a squeaker to the Mariners in extra innings last night. The Mariners fired their hitting coach right before the game, so it looks like that worked out well.
