Introducing Tourist

Summer, we’ve heard, is supposed to be the time for travelling the world, seeing new sights, accumulating new experiences, and exploring new places. According to the first Google result for “travel quotations” (the extent of our research), Helen Keller said that “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” Too bad some of us—those who will be spending the bulk of this summer in Toronto for work, for lack of money, or for abundance of apathy—aren’t so lucky. And, sure, that’s fine (Toronto’s great!), but occasionally we all want to get out and see what the rest of the world is like.
Inspired in part by CanCult‘s Cross-Country Tour—where the site featured different, gorgeous Creative Commons–licensed photos from across the country—Torontoist is pleased to launch Tourist, a new weekly feature appearing every Saturday and Sunday for the rest of the summer.
We’re asking the lovely and talented photographers in Torontoist’s Flickr Pool (and you, if you’re a photographer who hasn’t joined our pool yet) to help us out. Add the best of your travel shots (taken in any year, in any season, anywhere) to the pool, tag them with the tag “tourist,” and be sure to include their location somewhere. If your shots are already in the pool, do the same. If you’ve got a few photos from the same location or the same trip, all the better: we’ll gladly feature them together.
On the weekends, Tourist will take the same time time slot as the Daily Photoists that run from Monday to Friday do: 7:30 a.m., bright and early to kick off a full day’s worth of content. And as with Daily Photoists, we aim not to feature the stereotypical tourist shots of a place, but, instead, photos that capture something more like the life and essence of it. Or, you know, really really pretty pictures. We’re good either way.
