A Good Pac-Man Is Hard To Find: Spadina Bust

We should have known! The culprits responsible for the Pac-Man recreation on a streetcar shelter outside Kensington Market have stepped forward, and they’re neither advertisers nor immoralists: they’re Teeth (responsible for this charming bear-woman) and our very own Posterchild (who is something of a fan of video games).
The two collaborated to put up three nearly identical installations along Spadina: one at Spadina and Harbord (pictured above, at top); one at Spadina and Queen (above, bottom); and the one we spotted on Sunday, at Spadina south of Nassau (above, middle). The three ghosts, three cherries, and three Pac-Men were made out of scrap adhesive vinyl, took a grand total of five hours to build and install, and, says Posterchild, were totally Teeth’s idea. Says Posterchild: “When Teeth told me about it, I said ‘That’s brilliant! Let’s do it!’” And they did, and it was good.

Definitely deserving of two stories in as many days.

It must kill you that about half the stories in the last week have graffiti in them one way or another.

  • matty

It’s not killing me. It’s probably killing torontoist’s page hits though.

  • David Topping

Today’s article and yesterday’s article are the #1 and #2 most-viewed articles on Torontoist for the past seven days. They are also the top two recommended posts of this week so far.

If that speaks anything to the other content you post on here I would say that is really really sad.

  • Mark Ostler

…or that people really love Pac-man. That guy can seriously eat!

  • David Topping

It doesn’t speak to the other content.
The majority of people coming to the Pac-man articles are from outside the city (people like you, matty!); the majority of people reading the site (and the rest of its articles) on a daily basis come from inside the city or country. I think Pac-man has more worldwide internet appeal than, say, Pedestrian Sunday, or a debate over whether Toronto’s sign by-law is unconstitutional (two other articles with a lot of traffic published this week).
You don’t need to worry about us or our traffic, matty, we’re doing quite alright.

It’s called graffiti. It needs to be removed ASAP. Find a legal place for your art.

Sometimes I wonder if the people posting negative comments are simply graffiti artists trying to anger people into accepting graffiti by posing as anti-graffiti extremists.
Seriously. It sounds like something they’d do. :p Kinda like those “OBEY” stickers.

I agree graffiti is bad in some cases. But quite often it improves poorly kept buildings… making them works of art. Don’t think they should be making installations of TTC stops, but I’d sure enjoy some PAC man installations on some of the derelict buildings along Queen… and if the owners complain the city should fine them for improperly maintaining the streetscape.
