Becoming Bell Boxes Beautify Beaches

Painting telephone boxes may not be anything new, but that doesn’t make these any less awesome. Local high school artists from Rosedale Heights School of the Arts, Monarch Park, and Malvern Collegiate took part in a project fronted by the Beaches BIA to paint fourteen of the usually drab brown phone boxes, bringing a little sparkle of colour to the East Toronto neighbourhood.
Odds are the high school students worked for free, so why not get them to do this everywhere? And don’t just stop at telephone boxes, do everything! It would make Toronto look as colourful as Candyland. Who doesn’t want to live in Candyland?

    If the kids didn’t have the BIA’s say-so but painted the same things on the same phone boxes, this comment section would be full of complaints about how ugly it is because it’s unauthorized, and selfish because it’s inflicted upon the public.
    But good job kids! I hope the experience gets them selfishly inflicting ugliness on unauthorized surfaces across the city!

    Seriously, though, these are really nice.

    It’s an improvement.
    I’d prefer the original finish with no tags or graffiti, even if they’re boring utility boxes.
    It’s shameful that even rocks and trees are getting spray painted in my area.

    I’m glad that the BIA approached highschools to illuminate the neighbourhood. The students did a great job!
