A pay day loan storefront opening in your neighbourhood is the opposite of a Friendly Thai. I suppose a pawn shop or dollar store might be the opposite of a Starbucks.

Cheri DiNovo (NDP MPP) and Peggy Nash (NDP MP) have been very active to try and legislate pay day loan companies.

Check out Cheri's website and read her release about her work:

The 60% figure is there most likely because there already exists a federal law capping interest at that level. Somehow, the payday industry is either exempt at present or the rule isn't enforced, I am not sure which. But if the recommendation in question passes in ON, it will simply bring the province in line with law already on books but not in force.

I believe Harper's argument was "In 1992 [when I had no say in the matter] we did stuff. SO THERE!"

Thanks, Steve.

V is right. But Roy is also a nickname. Harry Leroy Halladay III is his legal name.

Halladay's baseball nickname is Doc. Doc Halladay. Green Sulfur is right - that sentence doesn't make sense on it's own.

Last two links are broken and that last sentence about Halladay just doesn't make sense.
