McGuinty Loves Fiat, Obama Loves Oregon, Blue Jays Love Futility

Dalton McGuinty wants Fiat to build its new North American factory here in Ontario. McGuinty emphasized Ontario’s history of auto manufacturing, and also the province’s sheer desperation to replace thousands of lost jobs from the American Big Three automakers gradually collapsing. McGuinty then said, “No, seriously, we’ll do anything to get the plant. AN-Y-THING.” Then he winked.
Barack Obama all but clinched the Democratic nomination last night when he won the state of Oregon to garner a majority of the party’s pledged delegates. Hillary Clinton, for her part, won Kentucky, a state that will almost certainly go Republican in the general election, and then claimed that she led in the popular vote, which is true if you count the illegitimate Michigan and Florida primaries and ignore the states of Iowa, Maine, Nevada and Washington. So it is “Clinton true,” much like blowjobs not being sex.
Toronto’s cyclists have formed a union, so now cyclists will be more organized and politically diligent than ever. Now when municipal politicians ignore their concerns, they will actually have to work a bit to ignore them.
Toronto musical talents came together to play a benefit concert for the people of Burma last night at Lula Lounge. Proceeds went to Burmese monks, who can use kung fu to prevent the Burmese army from stealing all the food to prop up the corrupt dictatorship.
And the Blue Jays continued to have a losing record as the Angels beat them down hard.

Except Fiat won’t likely want to build their small economical cars here but rather their high value Alfa Romeo line, certainly that’s what previous press coverage inferred. That would be more Ontario $$$ going to muscle cars rather than fuel-sippers.

Unfortunately you’re a day late on the Burma Relief concert as it was last night.

Minou, fixed that a few hours ago, just forgot to include a note here. Thanks.

McGuinty should try something different. Automotive manufacturing isn’t the same employment blue chip it used to be. In light of the changing economic situation, maybe he should invest in a utility tricycle factory or two.

Socialist union supporter or environmentalist. Pick one. (Or neither.)

I’ll bite for the Fiat factory, but I have one suggestion: build it in Toronto, in the portlands area (Eastern Ave. and all that jazz). We need the jobs here in Toronto like a starving person need food.
Ben: Yeah, a tricycle factory will do real wonders for the economy, because everybody will be buying one! And that will be when pigs fly.

Good point. The NDP is behind labour, and their claims about their environmentalism take a back seat to their ties to the automotive industry.
