I know--I tried working in a quick disclaimer (e.g., "The thought of the English national team arriving in Port of Spain instead of preparing for Euro 2008, for which they did not qualify, amuses us somewhat") but thought it sounded too wordy, and so out it went. What's especially amusing to me is that England's "golden generation" failed to qualify for an international tournament, in spite of having nothing else to do but win a game in its national stadium against ostensibly inferior opposition. Steve McLaren is truly a special one.

The reason England is not preparing for Euro 2008 is because they did not qualify.

Beckham is on record as not liking FieldTurf. I bet excuses will be found every time for non-appearance, notwithstanding the validity of this one.

When you put it like that, twistedtidings, that's *exactly* what I mean. ;) Actually, that's a subject for another entry: which major sport + MLS has the worst all-star game? The NFL seems like the obvious answer, but each of the others has its demerits...

Pointless exhibition to showcase the sport's biggest name? You mean, like the MLS All-Star Game, scheduled to played in BMO? And where Beckham will undoubtedly appear because, despite not setting the league "on fire", he does lead the league in assists...
