Providing more or alternative surfaces won't stop street teams from covering them and everything they usually cover.

Tapeminati isn't some anonymous guy's tag, it's a band (isn't it?) that can be tracked down and fined for hiring street teams to do this. Same goes for Absolut ads spraypainted on the sidewalk and those divorce fliers taped over bus shelter maps. These groups have phone numbers and people responsible for hiring someone specifically to do that kind of postering. If you want to stop the "postering problem" then get the city to go after these guys.

(I make a clear distinction between commercial/for-profit street vandalism, and personal/artistic expression. Anyone wanting to harp about it can look up my past comments [extending back beyond the comment registry, just look for 'rek'] first.)

Tapeminati is also known for permanently spraypainting their logo everywhere around downtown, particularly on sidewalks. I know of one on a sidewalk near me that's been there for at least three years.

The street postering "problem" I am talking about is exactly what iantri suggests—not the regular local event flyers, but the street teams who cement gigantic posters and quickie divorce stickers all over parking meter machines, up high on street signs, enveloping mailboxes, and pasted around bus shelters. Since most of these high-end events are underwritten by some booze company, promoter, record label or movie studio, it's especially egregious, especially considering that the City has to clean it up and how they rarely get fined (and when they do, it's an irrelevant amount). I have a more detailed article on this coming up soon.

"There's a street postering problem?"

Well, there are overzealous posterers who kind of go overboard and ruin it.

Case in point, a few weeks ago posters appears all over Queen west for something called "Tapeminate" or something like that. I have no idea what that is, but I sure noticed the posters because the very polite tactic they used was to wallpaper TTC shelters with them top to bottom so you can't see in or out, and to wrap them around the telephone poles, up 10 ft in the air.
