    This plaque (and the building) have been torn down. It was at Richmond, one lane west of Church. Currently it’s a giant hole in the ground waiting for yet another condo tower. Hopefully the condo developers will stick this historical plaque back onto the side of their shiny new building. (Yeah, that sounds likely…)

    Sometimes I wonder if people write things like that and think “Huh, that looks pretty cool and shit. I’m going to take a picture” and then submit it as an artsy piece.

    It’s a sad thing that historical plaques get shuffled around once their original location gets demolished. With redevelopment in the central area, many such plaques are probably at a distance from their original location and,I’m sure, not always thoughtfully relocated.
    Certainly, we should have a requirement in the zoning and planning phases of the property a requirement to restore the plaque or marker to an equal prominence as before.
    Why is this not so?

    There’s a plaque in Montreal honoring the birthplace of Antoine Cadillac. Cadillac eventually went on to found the city of Detroit and become governor of Louisiana. The car marque was also named after him. So where is this plaque, you might ask? Well for some reason it’s on the inside of this birthplace building instead of the outside, and this building is now…. a McDonald’s. *sigh*
