Last Thursday, we wrote about OCAD's awkward new name—OCAD University—and asked readers to come up with some alternatives. The school, a university since 2006, wants to ditch its college reputation without, well, ditching the "C" in its acronym that stands for "College."
Thankfully, some of you pitched in to help. Our favourite suggestions from readers were Svend's Thorarinn Ingi Jonsson–inspired "This Is Not A College"; deepsalia's "Ontario Centre for Art and Design," which preserves the "OCAD" acronym that the institution so badly wants to keep; and imfromtoronto's blast-from-the-past Ontario College of Art (OCA, the school's name from 1912 to 1996). Two of Torontoist's staffers also pitched in with name suggestions: Christopher Bird suggested the slightly superfluous "Ontario Higher Institute School of Art and Design Learning College University" (OHISADLCU), and Marc Lostracco put forward "Ontario Higher Art Institute" (OHAI, "for a Bachelor of LOL").
Now, it's up to U—er, sorry...you. Pick your favourite new name for OCAD below, and, after the weekend's over, we'll send on the top three finishers to the school.

Just FYI, the "No Javascript? No problem" link takes you to a page on PollDaddy where where the submit button doesn't work because it, uh, requires Javascript. Just FYI.
Also, clearly the most logical new name for OCAD would be the Ontario University of Art and Design, or OUAD.
Sorry 'bout the Javascript thing; unfortunately I can't fix that.
OHAI's slogan/motto: I Can Has Degree? Kthxbye
How about none of the above, they're all lame? OCADU actually looks pretty good compared to those ones.
As an OCAD student, I'm actually pretty satisfied with the OCAD U proposal. Though there are many names that we could call OCAD to recognize it as a university, OCADU is probably the best.
We have a saying around here: "The simplest solution is normally the most effective."
none of the above...why not just LET IT BE the way it is...why fix something that's not broken...toronto has a habit of changing names, look at o'keefe/hummingbird/sony. i mean if they do want to change the name, then why not do THE HOME DEPOT UNIVERSITY and get over it....a name that could double up as subway station, too...
Why not just combine the Ontario Centre idea with the U idea? Then it's not some backwards way of calling a college a university and a university a college.
How is Ontario Centre for Art and Design, which retains the OCAD acronym and avoids the 'college' part, not the simplest or most effective solution?
I agree. Not just because I said it. Even if you change a name, people will still call it OCAD.
I work with people who still call it OCA.
Hmmm I wonder why we are bothering. Whatever it is it won’t be the name for long, since there is a squandered opportunity for sponsorship. Within a few years it will get another new name, much like all of the sponsored classrooms. It will be something like the ‘Shoppers Drug Mart Universty of Art and Design’ or perhaps ’BMO OCAD U.’
