It's Saturday, the weekend, and we're all basking in not only our free time but also our ability to get downtown on the TTC before it's stripped away from us (even though it's a last resort etc. etc.). So this weekend is obviously the best time to try and check out anything at Hot Docs, because who knows if you'll have any opportunity to for the rest of the festival if the strike drags on?
Today's picks:
12:00 p.m. – Emoticons (ROM)
1:00 p.m. – Garbage! The Revolution Starts at Home (Bloor) – Andrew Nisker forces a family to keep all of their garbage across three months. Possibly at gunpoint.
1:45 p.m. – 20 Seconds of Joy (Royal) – Sometimes, insane people like to chuck themselves off buildings… For fun. It's called BASE jumping, and we can think of easier ways to get 20 seconds of joy (nudge nudge wink wink).
3:30 p.m. – Shot In Bombay (Bloor) – We actually love Bollywood films and never get enough chance to see or talk about them, this seems like an excellent chance to learn more about them (pictured above).
4:00 p.m. – The Old Thieves: The Legends from Artegio (Cumberland)
4:30 p.m. – Daddy Tran: A Life in 3-D (Al Green)
4:30 p.m. – Nursery University (Rom) – New Yorkers battle to get their offspring into the "right" pre-school.
9:45 p.m. – Carny (Royal) – The lives of carnival workers!
9:45 p.m. – Recycle (ROM) – Nothing to do with recycling; it's the story of an ex-Mujahideen soldier trying to live a peaceful life.
11:45 p.m. – Monterey Pop (Bloor) – Watch people destroy their instruments symbolically at the 1967 Monterey International Pop Festival.
