You Say You Want A Revolution

heartsrevolution.jpg

The latest thing from New York isn't the fall/winter ready-to-wear collections; it's electro-fantasy duo Heartsrevolution. The boy-girl pair—call them the Crystal Castles of the Big Apple (they've released a 6" EP with those Toronto natives)—will be performing for the first time in our fair city this Thursday at Wrongbar, and it's sure to be rebellious.

Lo and Ben began their career when Lo (Leyla Safai), a down-and-out L.A. girl who just wanted a little fun in her life, decided to fulfill a life-long dream and buy herself an ice cream truck. She filled it with the products of her lifestyle brand Heartschallenger: imported Japanese candy, mixtapes, t-shirts, records, graffiti prints, and (of course) ice cream! The first collaboration by the two occurred when Lo asked Ben to help create the "buy-me" songs for the ice cream truck, and thus Heartsrevolution was born.

Their first single, "Choose Your Own Adventure (C.Y.O.A.)," is full of hot fuzz and screaming vocals, and was recently remixed by Chicagoans Flosstradamus. The tracks are dance-provoking, yet ambient, and utterly infectious. The event, thrown by new promoters on the scene Dopplehertz, will most certainly be a hipster razzle-dazzle but sure to please—maybe even more so than delicious Japanese candy.

Heartsrevolution plays Thursday May 1, at Wrongbar (1279 Queen Street West). Tickets are available online, and at Play De Record, Rotate This, and Soundscapes.
