City of Toronto Releases Union Offer Details
Toronto's extensive work on the silver screen reveals that, while we have the chameleonic ability to look like anywhere from New York City to Moscow, the disguise doesn't always hold up to scrutiny. Reel Toronto revels in digging up and displaying the films that attempt to mask, hide, or—in rare cases—proudly display our city.
We at Reel Toronto usually wait until we have the whole darned movie so we can delight you with screencaps galore. That said, a couple of new TO-shot movies have recently revealed themselves to the world in trailer form and we couldn't wait any longer to share.
The first is today's teaser for The Incredible Hulk. We don't know if this movie will be great or sucky, but we can already tell it will rank high on the "Hulk Smash-o-Meter."
Men with steel.
As we reported last year, on a couple of occasions, the film shot all around downtown, most notably at U of T and on Yonge at Gerrard. The strip was shut down and converted into a warzone-like section of Harlem and you get a looooovely glimpse of it in the trailer.
It's unlikely this is the first tussle outside the Zanzibar. It may be the first where the NYPD were called in, however.
The Yanks can pretend it's New York all they want—we know the Zanzibar and Sam the Record Man (in all their seedy, neon glory) when we see 'em.
No, it's not the LG Tower near Dundas Square. This is a different Abomination on Yonge Street.
The big baddy in this one is The Abomination, and we get to see his big muscle-bound self too. This ain't one of those trailers where they don't show you anything; that's for sure.
Beyond that, the flick's got Edward Norton, William Hurt, Tim Roth and Liv Tyler and we're trying to be optimistic.
The other big slice of Hogtown/Hollywood which could go either way at this point is Mike Myers' The Love Guru. This one is as good as it gets: an American-made movie that actually takes place in Toronto!
Feel free to "nyuk nyuk" when Mr. Trailer Narrator says "the second greatest guru in India is coming...to America," as we cut to shots of Pearson. After all, we are in North America, so why split hairs?
Yeah, basically this Love Guru dude is called to Toronto to help a Maple Leafs player who has lost his proverbial mojo. No doubt it ends with the Leafs winning the Stanley Cup, making it something of a comedy/fantasy (zing!).
You do the guru that you do so well.
That means, at least in the trailer, most of the local shots are at the easily-recognizable ACC, but we expect more when the whole thing comes out in June.
We're not sure about this one either since it seems to have some bits that look an awful lot like old Austin Powers jokes (including Mini-Me appearing as the team's coach) but we love Mikey, so we'll give him benefit of the doubt. For now.

I don't understand why he's coming to America but is helping the Leafs? What?!
Either way, it's awesome to see the Abomination running past Sam's, Zanzibar and Le Chateau too!
Remember the Brunswick House in the 'Love Guru' trailer as well; it's the bar with the cowboy that can't act.
Um, did I see that righ? Justin Timberlake is Québécoise in this film?
Good call on the Brunny. I haven't been there in a while and didn't recognize it instantly (this is what happens when you graduate from U of T and move on...)
I also could be mistaken since it goes by so fast, but the scene where Jessica Alba is walking down the hall and Myers hits the gong looks like Casa Loma (placing him in the Conservatory).
This game is a lot easier when you have a full movie to look at instead of a fast-cut trailer :)
Wow that Love Guru trailer was not funny in the least. It's too bad, I was looking forward to the movie.
Casting Jessica Alba is a sure sign of quality.
I'm a little torn on the hulk trailer. Part of me thinks it's really cool because of Edward Norton and the effort they put forward on the film but part of me is concerned because Abomination especially looks cheezy.

The graphics on the NYPD car are totally wrong and the traffic lights look nothing like those of New York. I am not going to pay $11.50 (U.S which is about C$3.95 now) to see that.
They seemed to have changed the Love Guru trailer recently at least for Canadian releases. I saw the trailer last weekend and it now says "is coming...here" instead of "is coming to...America".
