TSO Trek

Have you been looking around for the perfect Valentine's Day gift for that special someone? Nothing says "I love you" like tickets to Star Trek: The Music.

Yesterday, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra announced that their 2007/2008 season finale would be a performance of music from everyone's favourite sci-fi series (Battlestar Galactica be damned!). On June 20 & 21, the TSO will play a medley of Star Trek themes with conductor Erich Kunzel, and hosts John de Lancie (aka. Q) and Robert Picardo (the holographic doctor on Voyager).

This isn't the first time that the TSO has delved into geekdom for inspiration. Erich Kunzel conducted the Star Wars concert three years ago, and last June there was the highly-touted-yet-critically-unacclaimed Not The Messiah (He's A Very Naughty Boy) with Monty Python's Eric Idle. It's nice to see the TSO providing entertainment for those who prefer the soft sounds of a Ressikan flute over a French horn. If they want to pander to popular nerdery, that's fine with us.

Tickets to Star Trek: The Music run from $33–98 and are on sale now.

Just imagine a whole symphony belting out this.

The real question is, how many Klingons and Romulans will be sitting in the audience?
