Rabbit in the Moon, the legendary Los Angeles-based funky techno crew best known for their insane, pyrotechnic, costumed stage performances and dark, live beats, is headlining the last ever all-ages party at The Sound Academy, a.k.a. The Docks, this Saturday at Destiny's Together As One. This will be the first time Rabbit in the Moon has performed within city limits since 1999, which should prove to be a frenetic, immersive performance with wearable lasers, futuristic weapons that shoot geysers made of sparks, and plenty of weird surprises from the guy dancing on stage.
Together As One will also feature LTJ Bukem, Black Sun Empire, Jelo, OS/2, DEKO-ZE, and The Rogue Element, making for a deliciously old-school lineup, which is sure to bring out some of the old-school heads who have gone into hiding.
For the truly dedicated weekend warriors, a shuttle bus will be available for the official afterparty at BLAK.
For many, The Docks' new 19+ rule will be the end of an era, as The Docks represented the last truly massive venue in Toronto that would allow promoters to book all-ages, all-night parties. The next-largest venues in Toronto are probably the much-detested Big Bop complex and the 800-capacity Opera House, which only has one room. The change has already made drum 'n bass heavyweights Future Sound move their March 15th event, Kings of the Jungle III, to the Opera House, which forced them to jettison the planned Nocturnal Commissions stage with Anabolic Frolic.
The chances of convincing the management to rethink this change in policy seem pretty slim. If they can't be swayed by the money from hosting 4,000-person events, it is hard to imagine why a few phone calls or faxes would help, but you can try.

wait... raves still happen? i thought those died in the 90s.
The Docks (or the Sound Academy, whatever you want to call it) is one of the worst Toronto concert venues I've ever been to.
You're quite right, mark0, which is why it doesn't make good business sense. The Docks is great for dance music, but has very poor sight lines for live concerts.
I can't wait- I've never seen Rabbit in the Moon's full craziness!
But it's lame the Docks/Sound Academy isn't going to be doing any more all-ages events - they were some of my favourite parties in Toronto.
Rabbit in the Moon played at raves I went to in, like, 1995. I would have though they would have joined their dad's septic tank business by now.
The Big Bop is much detested? It's my favourite venue in town!
Big Bop is pretty good. I've had some wondrous experiences there.
