CBC It To Boulieve It

cbc_dress.jpg Who knew the CBC was so popular in western Africa? Granted, Test the Nation was an unmitigated success (well, for the bloggers anyhow), but the fact that fashion from half-way around the world could be inspired by our venerable national broadcaster still seems quite remarkable.

First spotted by the Inside The CBC blog, you're looking at what may very well represent the height of African fashion. This smart and sassy number (a traditional west African garment known as a "Boubou") is appropriate for either work or entertaining ("with or without head-tie"!), according to the Africa Styles website, who would certainly know about these things better than you, we dare say. The Boubou retails for a mere $150 (the website doesn't specify which currency), which is practically a steal when you consider how few CBC-logo-themed Boubous are available to a clamoring public.

How and why they decided to incorporate the iconic CBC logo into this garment has not been divulged, although a completely honest coincidence has to be at least as plausible as an abiding African fascination with MVP: The Secret Lives of Hockey Wives.

On the off chance that they did "borrow" the design we say kudos, because if you're going to feature logos on your clothes, that Boubou is a hell of a lot better than these things.

Anyone have the courage to tell them the logo is referred to as the exploding pizza?

When I read the article I was more inclined to believe that the design was, in fact, "a completely honest coincidence has to be at least as plausible" as mentioned in the article. A quick look around their website made me change my mind, since their main contact number has a 519 area code and it clearly states that "[their] products are shipped from London, Ontario " — which brings me back to the original question...

Ah...it looks like the mystery's solved, then. Still, it's a hell of a handsome garment.

That is SOOO crazy, I love it. I wish they had said how the design of the garment had come about.
