Populist: January 7–13

We publish a lot of articles on Torontoist, and sometimes it's hard to keep up. Populist is a weekly recap, appearing every Sunday night, that features some of the coolest, most interesting, most commented, and most recommended posts from our past week.

• We announced the top vote-getters for Superheroes and Supervillains of 2007! Who could have possibly anticipated that Stephen Harper was so disliked?
• Julie Reitsma tried to find the best pho in the latest Great Torontoist Challenge. The winner, as always, is your taste buds. (This week's most commented-on post.)

• Patrick Metzger and Ken Hunt debated banning billboard advertising in the latest Torontoist vs. Torontoist. But how else will drivers along the Gardiner learn about new H&M blouses?
• Roxanne Bielskis wrote about Antonia Zerbisias's new blog Broadsides (awesome!), which is primarily about how much Zerbisias doesn't like her body (not...so...awesome).
• Kevin Plummer contrasted the words of a visitor to Toronto to one of our city's preeminent philosophers to explore the topic of rudeness.
• David Topping happened upon an old subway ad and subway map, both devoted to wiping out their respective scourges: the Sheppard subway, and stretching.
• Readers' favourite photo of the past week (by recommends) was Friday's stunning black and white portrait, taken by James Helmer.
