Illustration Sunday: “Coffee” Time

The owner of a Coffee Time franchise at Queen and Sherbourne was arrested this week for allegedly selling marijuana, crack, and illegal cigarettes out of the store. The news won’t surprise those familiar with the neighbourhood, but it will bring new meaning to the question “Will that be one lump or two today, sir?”

    Ask any criminal lawyer, and they’ll tell you that – just like Canadian Tire is affectionately known as “Crappy Tire”, nobody says “Coffee Time”: it’s “Crack Time”…
    (you think that’s the only location?)

    a friend and I did a study on how scuzzy a neighbourhood was in relation to the number of Coffee Time’s there were.
    I’m surprised that it took this long to bust one.

    There’s a Coffee Time up at Yonge/Eg that just got reno’d and from passing by it looks like they’re now trying to compete with Starbucks. I’m too afraid to go in and confirm, though. ;)

    Crack Time!! I knew there must be a nickname for Coffee Time. Back in the olden days, they used to call Galaxy Donuts “Galaxy Drugs”.

    Man, that explains so much. I live in one of those condos around the corner and that ‘Time has the look and feel of nothing less than a crackhouse.

    There was also the crack time on Bloor W near Palmerston, also an internerd cafe .. It is now renamed to “Cafe” i think but kids are always smoking drugs out back and dealers are sitting at the tables waiting for custies.. i’m scarred to park around there.

    I found this site , which covers some of the knock-offs, when researching Coffee Time.

    At least Coffee Time doesn’t have that idiotic, hand-drawn logo anymore with the stupid bubble letters that looked like they belonged on some 12-year-old girl’s pencil case.
    Also, the word “coffee” starts looking really strange the more you look at it.
