Higher Fuel Standards, RIP Bobby Fischer, Ryerson Expands

Ottawa to introduce new fuel economy standards. They will be "at least" as stringent as American fuel economy standards. In response, David Suzuki blew upon a party horn sarcastically and waved a tiny flag, his derision apparent to all and sundry.

Bobby Fischer dies at 64. The former world chess champion was famous for beating the Russians, and for being quite possibly fairly insane, which inspired the nifty little film Searching For Bobby Fischer.

Ryerson University announces it has bought the Sam The Record Man building. They said it, they did it, they'll put a library extension in it!

Sprinklers may become mandatory in Ontario high-rise buildings. Did you know that sprinklers weren't mandatory for high-rises? Because that was a disconcerting surprise to us, let us tell you.

Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff tells border security critics to "grow up." Because the terrorists, you understand, are trying to kill us all in our beds, and only closing our security loopholes can save us all. For example, the hundred-odd people who repair and refuel planes at airports before takeoff are now all completely vetted every time they approach the... no? That doesn't happen? Well, all right then.

And the Leafs won their second game in a row, beating the Boston Bruins.
