SupperSweet!
University students, busy families, and Crackberry-addicted workaholics, rejoice! No more take-out! No more factory-made frozen dinners loaded with fat and sodium! No more sad, sad "dinners" of Oreo cookies with gin and Seven-Up.
Two businesses have sprouted up to simplify home cooking: SupperSolved and SupperWorks. They create the menus, shop for groceries, clean and prepare the ingredients, and even do the clean up. All you do is visit the location closest to you (SupperSolved is at Bloor West and Jane, while SupperWorks has nine locations around the GTA), where you'll assemble six different entrées in an one hour to take home and freeze until you're ready to eat. Even better, if you don't have an hour—or are that adverse to cooking—there's a pick-up option as well, but there's an added cost.
Each entrée feeds four to six people, and there are over a dozen selections from the menu to choose from. SupperSolved has Salmon with a Lemon Mint Crust, White Bean Chicken Chili, and Seafood Paella, while SupperWorks has Chicken Marrakech, Balsamic'n Herb Sirloin Roast, and Pan-Seared Basa with Tomato Cream Sauce. Vegetarians aren't left out: SupperSolved will customize its recipes to substitute meat for vegetables, beans, or tofu and SupperWorks has three vegetarian dishes.
In terms of pricing, entrées start at about $25 for both SupperWorks and SupperSolved. (It works out to $4 to $6 per serving.) At both SupperWorks and SupperSolved, entrées can be halved to create two smaller entrées that each serve two to three people, but SupperWorks will charge a $10 to $15 fee.
SupperSolved will also deliver for an additional fee. But who can't spare an hour? There's something visceral about making your own food, and you can live out the fantasy of having your own cooking show. With time, you'll be a Cooking Mama too.
Thanks to reader Jessica Rouleau for the tip.

They have a bunch of locations, but nine in the GTA is a bit of a stretch. Only two of them are Toronto proper and they are the yuppiest of neighbourhoods imaginable (Yorkville and Beaches). The rest are pretty far out there!
