Musicologist’s generous boast last week of a busier than usual month for music was definitely that: generous. While this week’s listings seem a bit skeletal compared to the past few, there are definitely a few events worthy of precious holiday season time.
Toronto-born, Halifax-bound The Darcys are playing the Supermarket Thursday evening with Zesty (one half former Cuff the Duke guitarist Jeff Peers and one half Free Times Cafe Open Stage songstress Sarah Gates). The Darcys endearingly describe themselves as a a simple man’s Talking Heads and a wannabe Unicorns which in theory should draw an at-capacity crowd, so get there early.
Also on Thursday, local collective Familiar Music are hosting their holiday party at the El Mocambo. In addition to showcasing their signed artists for the evening, all proceeds from the evening will go towards Sick Kids‘ Music Therapy Program.
Finally, what is highly recommended by Musicologist (and the rest of the city, for that matter) is finding the culprits who have successfully drained all of the tickets for a much-anticipated Mars Volta show in January. The dirty workings of these perpetrators left the show sold out less than an hour after tickets went on sale and soon after displayed their sly success on sketchy ticket selling websites for all to see—websites which will not be linked out of protest.
