What to do if you are alone tomorrow, either because you don't celebrate Christmas, or because there's no one around to celebrate with:

Spend your day curled up with the almost-human warmth of your laptop, watching the WPIX Yule Log and listening to "Blue Christmas" (the Bright Eyes version), both on endless loops that resemble depression spirals more and more with each whiskey-and-tears cocktail that passes down your throat, which, come to think of it, is feeling awfully sore, almost as sore as your heart...

Or...

Put on your best pair of sweatpants and go to the cinema, where a handful of Oscar-bait flicks compete for your thirteen dollars. Rob Reiner's The Bucket List stars Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman as... who cares, actually? It's Jack Nicholson! And Morgan Freeman! The Great Debaters is based on an "inspirational true story" (or is it a "remarkable true story"?) about an underdog debate team and its brilliant (but, naturally, troubled) coach, Denzel Washington. Our money, however, is on Julian Schnabel's The Diving Bell and The Butterfly. It has the prettiest trailer.

If you'd rather enjoy what's shaping up to be an unusually white Christmas out there, dig out your ice skates (or rent a pair) and hit the rink at Nathan Phillips Square. As we all know from the movies, the right lighting—in this case, the dazzling holiday display strung up over the square—can turn even the bitterest loneliness into romantic solitude.

Do dinner the Jewish way, by heading to Chinatown or Markham for a Chinese buffet.(Upside to going alone: there's no one to judge you for inhaling that third plate of dumplings.) Best bets include Cha Liu Dim Sum (2352 Yonge Street), Bright Pearl (346 Spadina Avenue), and Grand Chinese Cuisine (655 Dixon Road). And if Chinese just isn't greasy enough for you, there's always Fran's (20 College Street; 210 Victoria Street), serving "comfort food" around the clock. (Less comforting is the number on the scale after one too many of these all-day breakfasts... but you can worry about that next year.)

Finally, buy yourself a present to put under that sad little Charlie Brown tree. Pacific Mall is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., so you can celebrate the true spirit of Christmas—rampant materialism.
