Hay Giller!

2007_11_06elizabethhay.jpgWell, it's official. This year's Giller Prize has been awarded to Elizabeth Hay for her novel, Late Nights on Air.

The announcement was made at a black-tie gala event that began earlier tonight. It was hosted by Seamus O'Regan of Canada AM, and aired live on Bravo! But if you're like Torontoist and don't have cable and missed it, don't worry. The event will broadcast again on CTV tomorrow at 8 p.m.

The now co-sponsored prize is Canada's richest literary award for fiction. Awarding $40,000 to the winner and $2,500 to each of the other finalists—who were Michael Ondaatje, Daniel Poliquin, M.G. Vassanji, and Alissa York—the selections were made by jury panelists David Bergen, Camilla Gibb, and Lorna Goodison. A record 108 books were submitted by 46 Canadian publishers.

Did you guess the Giller right?
