Straight Outta Mill Street

Soulpepper, that scrappy little theatre company from The Distillery, just released their 2008 schedule. If you haven't seen a Soulpepper play before, you've been missing out on some of the best theatre this city has to offer.

This past season was one of Soulpepper’s greatest. Among other fantastic shows, the company put on an astounding rendition of Brecht's The Threepenny Opera and a hilarious staging of William Saroyan’s Time of Your Life. They also received widespread critical acclaim for their rendition of Caryl Churchill’s Top Girls, featuring Ann-Marie MacDonald and Megan Follows.

Top Girls will return for an encore in October, featuring the same cast and director as this season’s production. Also be sure to check out Shakespeare’s As You Like It, premiering in February. Albert Schultz, sure to draw upon the experience he gained during his Stratford days, is in the director’s seat, and the cast features some of the company’s strongest actors, including William Webster, Michael Blake, and Sarah Wilson.

Of course, also premiering in February is Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple—and there’s something delightful about Schultz playing Oscar Madison that we just can’t resist.

Soulpepper has a lot to offer this season, so be sure to check it out. Regular tickets aren’t too expensive, and rush tickets are $20, or $5 if you’re 21 or younger(!).
