Cows Crossing, Climate Collapsing, Condo, Condo, Condo

2007_11_19_cow2.jpgSome Canadian cattle will now be allowed into the United States following a 4-year ban in the wake of several cases of “mad cow” disease. American Homeland Security regulations will still require that any bovines wishing to cross the border carry a valid passport.
The latest UN report on climate change says that global disaster is a safe bet if we don’t change our carbon-emitting ways by 2012. It’s all good for Canadians though, as the worst effects will be felt in places like Africa where people are used to dying of starvation, disease and general catastrophe anyway. Way to take one for the team, guys.
Work begins tomorrow on Toronto’s first school-condo project—part of a deal which saw the Toronto District School Board selling some of the land belonging to North Toronto Collegiate Institute near Eglinton and Mount Pleasant to developer Tridel. Tridel will build two condo towers on site, while also rebuilding the school. The new Tridel-Coke-Nike-Microsoft-Spirit of Free Enterprise Secondary School will include a football field and a theatre.
A baggage screener at Pearson Airport has been suspended after she modified her uniform skirt to make it longer. Halima Muse is a practicing Muslim who felt that the standard skirt was immodest. Current skirts for screeners are modeled on those from the original Star Trek TV show.
And Spacing has selected winners in their “My Toronto” video contest. Jury notes include the encouraging observation, “Overall disappointed with the quality of submissions.”

Funnily, the increased demand for cattle resulting from the opened border will have a corresponding increase in greenhouse gas emissions.

Funnier, I wonder why America bans cattle from Canada for 4 years over mad cow disease, yet, doesn’t ban anything from China over poison pet food, baby food, lead paint or toy beads that convert to a date-rape style drug when ingested by toddlers.

The condo is being built at North Toronto, not Northern, couple of blocks west.

wow. what an immensely ignorant statement.

  • Skippy the Magical Racegoat

Hey matty, you don’t suppose the writer was being ironic, do you?

  • Patrick Metzger

Ya know, matty, I’m really not that subtle. I thought you would have got that one.

  • rek

Isn’t there already a condo-school hybrid in Toronto? I remember hearing about it nearly two years ago.

  • matty

maybe it’s not funny because on a human scale the worst effects of global warming probably will be felt in africa. so your attempt at wry humor kind of didn’t work there. for me at least.
i’m not trying to be a jerk, but come on.

Isn’t that …. what he said in the first place?

  • rek

matty – Just for you, it would seem.

  • Robis

matty, you may not be trying to be a jerk, but you’re pretty close to it.
What’s that word that means to say the opposite of what you actually mean? Any guess, matty?
