For Those With No Attention Span

2007_11_21minutefilm.jpgThe Toronto One Minute Film & Video Festival turns five tomorrow. Not to be lumped in with our typical neverending, city-spanning, celebrity-scoping, press-pass flossing film fests, this one usually comes and goes gracefully before anyone even knows it exists. Sixty films, 60 seconds each, played back-to-back at the Bloor Cinema. You couldn’t get bored if you tried.

Founded in 2003 as the result of a dare among friends and former-filmmakers in Toronto, the idea is to complete a project with imposed time and subject-matter restrictions, in order to make it easier to get motivated. This year's theme is secrets (in years past, themes have been neighbours, firsts, intersections, and growth).

While nearly half the entries are from Toronto, some come from as far as Iran, Estonia, Denmark, Northern Ireland and Austria. So show some respect for A.D.D. filmmaking the world over by dropping by the Bloor Cinema on Thursday at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door or you can grab tickets in advance for $8 at Queen Video (Bloor location).
