City 7: Toronto the City-o-game

2007_11_01Game1.jpg

The above image viewed from afar might lead you to believe it is just a photo taken in a dimly-lit subway station. We were almost tricked, too! However, it is actually a screenshot from the newest Half-Life 2 mod by a team of five George Brown thesis students, which is called City 7: Toronto Conflict.

The story goes something like this: The Combine, some kind of invading alien force, has turned the CN Tower into a massive citadel and cut off human communication between cities. Toronto, which has been renamed "City 7," plays host to a rebel force that aims to answer questions about the mysterious invasion.

The game features locations like Mel Lastman Square, Dundas Square, the Eaton Centre, and parts of the subway. The team claims to have gotten "halfway to the CN Tower," which sounds like a pretty impressive feat.

We don't have Half-Life 2, either, but there are some pretty screenshots after the jump!

On a somewhat related note, if you have never put your ear to a transfer machine while it is printing a transfer, it makes a pretty nifty noise.

The aliens must be a highly intelligent race: they removed most of the ads from Dundas Square and burned all the cars.

Aliens love shopping at Seers! [sic]

This one had us pretty amazed by its realism.

The team is looking for some talented people to help them complete the game as it was originally intended. If you're up to the task, contact them. We can't wait to see how this one turns out!

Wow, this is awesome! I love how they captured the texture of the tiles and the font at Dundas. That token machine looks wicked too.

Very realistic...

(seriously!)

Whoops, I thought that was real at first.
That mod looks great.

Looks too clean to be Toronto.

You should invest in HL2. It's a great game. Um that is if you like computer games.

I can't wait til they release the mod, it looks like it'll be a surrealist trip!

wow. that's quite impressive, it took a second glance to realize its not real.
