Toronto Is Thrilling The World

Last year, 26-year-old Ines Markeljevic had an idea. Why not try and set a Guinness World Record for the most people doing the Thriller dance?

"I'd been doing the Thriller dance for nine years. It was my own sort of Halloween tradition," she says. She had learned the dance as a teenager, and had performed it not only at Halloween, but also for charity events and dance competitions.

"For my tenth year, I wanted to go really big."

In two weeks she had gathered 60 zombies and got her name in the record books. But this year, she has set her sights even higher.

On Saturday, Ines is planning her 11th annual Thriller dance, but she won't be alone. She has coordinated simultaneous Thriller dances in 80 different cities from 15 countries on 4 different continents. Participants from around the world will join her in first learning the Thriller dance, and then performing it at once to set a new record with the Record Holders Republic for the World's Largest Simultaneous Thriller Dance.

If you want to join in on the Toronto event, it's happening this Saturday at York University from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. You have to be there the entire time so bring a lunch and your best zombie costume. If you just want more information, you can just go to their website for all the details.

Straws in the air - a couple of months ago, youtube featured a video of hundreds of prisoners in a Philippine facility doing the thriller dance. Creepy and amusing at the same time.
