Populist: October 8–14

- Alexandra Samur discovered an unlikely hero for a graffiti tagger: 19th-century Bohemian-Austrian composer Gustav Mahler (this week’s most commented-on post). Nonetheless, it is a cultural step up from Val Kilmer.
- Rebecca Pardo wrote about a white supremacist’s found wallet, and the super-gay/black/native party thrown that will maybe be thrown in its honour (this week’s most recommended post).
- Johnnie Walker interviewed trey anthony & Ngozi Paul of Da Kink in My Hair. Luckily there were no kinks in da interview.
- Holy crap: electricity meters are slowly taking over the city. Who will fall victim to their measurements next? Val Dodge has the details.
- Marc Lostracco wrote about the Matador Club and the city’s utter dickishness therein. He also detailed cyclist-friendly changes to the new Driver’s Handbook’s treatment of cyclists. Boo, and yay, respectively.
- Kevin Bracken got nervous and excited for Newmindspace’s big game of Capture the Flag on Friday. Turns out everything went great: Miles Storey provided the juicy juicy photos afterwards.
- Christopher Bird liveblogged the Ontario Election, with as much attention placed on Zork Hun and Torbjorn Zetterlund as Dalton McGuinty, John Tory, Howard Hampton, and Frank De Jong. Because when the status quo is upheld in an election for both form and content, all you can do is make fun of people’s weird names.
- Kevin Bracken wrote a glowing review of that new huge megaclub, CiRCA. Whether you’re a 905-er who likes rock or a 905-er who likes hip-hop, there’s something for you! (Kidding––apparently there’s something for everyone.)
- Jamie Bradburn wrote about a couple of pretty amazing past provincial election campaigns, like one that involved communists and sugar fights.
