Populist: October 1–7
We publish a lot of articles on Torontoist, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up. Populist is a weekly recap, appearing every Sunday night, that features some of the coolest, most interesting, most commented, and most recommended posts from our past week.

- Marc Lostracco kicked off Torontoist and the National Post’s “Flags for All” contest, and wrote about a politician who’s a total pussy.
- Miles Storey took some beautiful shots of the city’s fog cover.
- Val Dodge wrote about a certain department store using a urinal cake as a pin cushion. Gross.
- David Topping wrote about twenty redesigned garbage bins (giving new meaning to art as trash), and Dan Bergeron (fauxreel)’s cheap, cheap lobotomies.
- Karen Whaley and Amanda Buckiewicz featured some cool photos of Nuit Blanche from Torontoist’s Flickr Pool (this week’s most commented-on post, probably because of all that Nuit Blanche ambivalence). Plus, Tony Makepeace continued Panoramaist with a look around Lower Bay station (this week’s most recommended post).
- Chris Tindal dug into an MMP e-mail hoax making the rounds.
- Adam Miller continued his excellent City Intersected feature with a look at Front & Jarvis.
- Ken Hunt wrote about the CRIA’s blocking of Demonoid, a major Bittorrent tracker. The move will surely cripple all illegal Canadian Bittorrent use….hey, wait, Knocked Up and Planet Terror and last week’s episode of The Office and every album ever are all out on ten thousand other trackers, too. Never mind.
- If the Maple Leafs are already getting you down, Chris Dart has some hockey alternatives. Also: you could just play hockey yourself.
