Begging For A Penny, Spending Your Education Pennies, Mourning Moneypenny

news_1Oct07.jpg

Premier Dalton "Surplus? What surplus?" McGuinty showed that he does listen to David Miller when he echoed the mayor's "One Cent" campaign in a letter to Stephen Harper, which asked the PM for a penny of the GST to fund Ontario's disintegrating cities. Why are our our politicians always sending letters to each other? What century do they live in? "Please ensure that the footman delivers this correspondence to the downstairs maid before afternoon tea..."

Amid speculation that he may abandon or at least re-spin his controversial pledge to fund religious schools, Conservative leader John Tory is hosting a conference call today with all Tory candidates to discuss the issue. The promise has been a faith-based albatross around Tory's neck, with polls revealing that most voters feel irrational superstition should be paid for privately.

An American study has found that cockroaches are mentally slow in the morning and tend to learn better late in the day. The finding could have implications for private cockroach academies which might be eligible for public funding under a Conservative government.

Kitchener-born actress Lois Maxwell, best known for playing Miss Moneypenny in James Bond films from 1962 to 1985, has died at the age of 80. Don't you think that she and Bond were secretly up to something in the supply closet at MI-6? "Oh, James!" indeed.

I worked at the Toronto Sun HR Dept as a temp back in the 80s and Ms Moneypenny was a journalist; one day I was alone in the office and she came in and without saying a word came up to me opened her mouth and began showing me her molar trying to talk while her mouth was wide open and I had no idea who she was but she was interesting
