If you've still got some energy (and wads of cash) after TINARS, you might want to consider attending a unique poetry salon offered by the U of T School of Continuing Studies.

The ten-week course is a poetry lecture/reading series, composed of eight accomplished Toronto-based poets. Facilitated by Margaret Christakos, the course will host Antonio D'afonso, Triny Finlay, Maggie Helwig, Clifton Joseph, Robert Priest, Stuart Ross, Karoen Solie, and Souvankham Thammavongsa. Each week, one poet will be selected for study, with the remaining poets acting as guest critics to their fellow colleague. After lectures, deconstructions, analyses, etc, a half hour of live reading by the poet under discussion will ensue, followed by a facilitated discussion. All of the poets come from different micro-communities of Toronto's literary scene, bringing a diverse pallet of social and critical perspectives in addition to their distinctive contemporary writing styles.

Classes will be held at the St. George campus in the pharmacy building at the northwest corner of College and University, in "The Pod." By no means is this course restricted to U of T students. Any adult can register, regardless of prior academic background. For a fee of $199 plus $100 for course materials (eight books), you can register for the course up until the first day. The course runs every Wednesday, 7–9:30 p.m. from September 26 to December 5.
