Rubino To Maneater: "You Can't Eat Here"

In the wake of TIFF celebritymania, it's hard to imagine any Torontonian giving a Big Name the cold shoulder. But The New York Daily News reports that chef Guy Rubino of Rain threatened to kick Nelly Furtado and her entourage out of the elite pan-Asian fusion restaurant after her manager got uppity in the kitchen.

"She made a reservation for ten guests," explained Rubino at the Bon Appétit magazine awards dinner on Monday. "She showed up an hour late, with five extra people in tow. For parties that size, we do a prix-fixe type of menu. Nelly objected and was really rude about it. She expected individual dishes to be prepared. Her manager even came into the kitchen and had the gall to say, 'Just f—ing do it!' I told her that she and her client could 'just f—ing LEAVE.'"

Rubino also complained about Justin Timberlake's prima donna behaviour: "[He] comes into Rain, doesn't even look at the menu and shouts for random food that we don't make. If he knew what he wanted, why come to an Asian restaurant in the first place?"

So who is Guy Rubino, anyways? You might recognize him and Rain from the Food Network Canada show Made to Order. We love it when our home grown culinary talent earns international media recognition...for slamming pop stars.

Remember when Nelly Furtado was all sweet and authentic and stuff? I guess whoever got to Gwen Stefani got to her too.

I love that Guy Rubino is not only NOT kissing celebrity ass, but that he's also telling about their bad behaviour.
