Cabbagetown Festival 2007

Honestly, is there a more nauseatingly cute Toronto locale than Cabbagetown? All those impeccably-maintained Victorian houses, those happy retirees, those friendly neighbourhood cats—what other village in the city has its own hobby farm?

Residents and fans of the area come together this weekend for the 2007 Cabbagetown Festival (September 7–9). Torontoist will be on site to photograph the corn roasting, street dancing and general merrymaking. A full schedule of entertainment and events is available here.

Why so snide? I live in Cabbagetown, and it seems pretty nice to me.

Snide, snark ("nauseatingly" so) is what Torontoist seems to trade on.

For the record, the author of the post lives in Cabbagetown.

i personally think torontoist is also a westist...they always find everything on the west side totally cool in it's ugliness...come see the ugly parts of cabbagetown, please....if that's what it takes to put it on the map....

For the record, why did you have to say she lives in Cabbagetown? Still a snide post, and confirms that even "when the author lives in Cabbagetown" this blog has to be snide.

Hmm, the TOist didn't seem west-biased to me until you mentioned it. But perhaps that's because I live on the west side and there is just more here than over there. Thought I have to admit there are more murders, pervs, alkies, dives, skids, and crapholes on the east side. And true, more fatties, uglies, crackies and creepies.

We've tried to get more writers representing le côté est, but they're few and far between, it seems—we're always open to ideas, though. Also, most of the press releases we get and events we feature tend to be happening in places more westwardly, just because that's where the venues are. We'd love to feature more stuff from the eastern front.

As for the Cabbagetown thing, I was making it clear that she was poking fun at herself...kinda like how people poke fun at the stereotypes of Rosedale, Kensington, Parkdale, condo vs. suburb, the gaybourhood, etc.

It's true, I do live in Cabbagetown and I love it there. I was merely poking fun at how blissful life has become since moving to the land of cuteness.

It's called a sense of humour.
