As a West Queen West (lived different parts of it for 18 years) resident I would to add that no one refers to this area as Parkdale East. There was a time not too long ago when there were many similarities to Parkdale, but the "Gallery District" and more recently "West Queen West" are the proper names for this stretch of Queen. In the early 90's WQW would end at T-B park. Parkdale begins West of the railway tracks and was it's own municipality until 1881. Ward 18 is the council ward for this area east of the tracks.

Thanks.

I appreciate everyone's feedback on this edition of A City Intersected. I made a conscious decision while developing my column that the intersection I choose to write about should be a "drop-off" point for the reader. Basically rather than limit myself to four corners of an intersection, I decided that a few short blocks in any direction would be acceptable. With that said, perhaps I was stretching it with the West Queen West mural. But I hope you'll forgive me for the oversight this time around and continue to offer your feedback as I hop around the city in the coming months.

you may want to point out that the wall mural of "West Queen West" is not actually on Crawford.

Informative piece, I enjoyed reading the background on its history. However, your lead-in photo is of Queen & Claremont, which is quite a few blocks east of Crawford - on the other side of the park entirely (ordinarily I wouldn't be such a stickler for details, but the title refers to a specific intersection). And I do think it's debatable whether this neighborhood can really be called "emerging" anymore. In the years I have lived here it's gone from delightfully sketchy to emerge-d to downright yuppified. Take that as you will.

That said, I still have a love affair with Capsule!

I have lived in this area for over two years and have never heard it called East Parkdale. However, it is nice to see a feature on one's own area. I do find the top photo a bit misleading because it isn't Crawford and Queen but a few blocks east.

As for the guests who whine about the designer everything, Czehoski is further east, and there are plenty of affordable stores in this area. (Well except for the clothing stores, they are a bit pricey).

As for restaurants, Oyster Boy and Terroni's are also in this area, and both are worth visiting. Most importantly, there is a Chippy's, the best place for good food that is bad for you.

Previous intersections have included Dufferin & St. Clair, Avenue & Eglinton, Yonge & Bloor, Bathurst & Bloor, and Chester & Danforth. Better luck next time.

Wow. What a surprising choice of intersections. Way to keep your audience guessing.

"Parkdale East"? Give me a break!

It's not uncommon to see fancy Italian sportscars parked in from of Czehoski on Queen West at Euchlid. There's a steady flow of well heeled urbanites shopping for designer shoes all down that strip. Asides from the close proximity, that area has about as much in common with Parkdale proper as Yorkville does with Lestlieville.
