Walk To The Hand

Crossings bearing the familiar Pedestrians Obey Your Signals sign are usually a good indication that still nobody is obeying, but what to do when the signals themselves ignore each other?
Discovered on Jared Alleyne’s Flickr account and captured this week in Yorkville by his sister Caleigh, the photo also shows a smashed street lamp reflector at the base of the pole. Perhaps we’ll stay away from this intersection for a while.

    Which one do I obey?
    The one on the left.
    It’s status agrees with the (green) condition of the *traffic* light adjacent to it.
    The defensive pedestrian would easily figure this out. It looks as though whatever knocked down the street light also forced the second, now ambiguous, set of pedestrian signals to a position that is ninety degrees off from its original, intended orientation.

    Hey, isn’t that the entrance to the loading dock of Hazelton lanes on Bay St.?
    Anyway the sidewalk is continuous. Just watch for trucks leaving on their green.
    Did someone notify the City, so that they can fix it? I’m sure they would do so promptly, if they knew about it. There does not seem to be a protocol for police to notify the city in this type of situation.
    That is, assuming that that the event was even reported to, or investigated by, the police.
    Apathy prevents me from reporting it.
    Watch your step, good people.

    I believe the signal wasn’t bumped, but was being replaced by the new countdown one to the left. Usually, one of them is bagged during this time, though.
