Populist: August 6–12

We publish a lot of articles here on Torontoist, and sometimes it's hard to keep up with all of them. Populist is a weekly recap intended for the casual Torontoist reader, featuring some of the coolest, most interesting, most commented, and most recommended posts from the past week on Torontoist. Populist will appear every Sunday night.

This week on Torontoist featured bleepin' boobs, Brass Rail burn-outs, coulrophobia, Guitar Girls, Giambrones, and Alsop architecture. Here are a selection of some of our posts from this past week.

• Tony Makepeace continued his gorgeous VR panoramas with the Harbourfront bridge.
• Alexandra Samur reviewed MyBikeLane Toronto, a system that profiles the "bleepin' boobs who block our bike lines" [this week's most commented-on post].
• Val Dodge got excited for the re-opening of the Don, while Ashley Carter got excited for the re-opening of the Revue (well, sort of). Exciting!
• James Helmer decided it'd be a good idea to scare the shit out of our coulrophobic readers, in the process reminding us why not to go to the Ex anymore.
• Marc Lostracco profiled Will Alsop's latest hole-ridden structure, Filmport; wrote about Toronto's most in-love stormtroopers; and checked out last weekend's Caribana festival. Most importantly, though, he documented the aftermath of a minor fire at the Brass Rail [this week's most recommended post]. Includes photos of big strong firemen putting out hot, hot lady-fires with their long, virile hoses.
• Chris Tindal explained how the Air Quality Health Index works, and how it kind of doesn't.
• Carly Beath proves that when bands break up, good things can sometimes come out of it...like their gear. She also celebrated Guitar Girl, extraordinarily cool girl-only guitar lessons.
• David Topping interviewed Adam Giambrone, asking such hard-hitting questions as "why did you choose politics over archeology?", complained a bit about H&M's dumb promotion for their new store, and found a cute sign on a construction site in the Junction. Oh, and he really really likes Oh No! Oh My!, but is decidedly more ambivalent about Zanta being back.
