Metalocalypse Creators Take A Detour To Toronto

Last night, Teletoon’s The Detour held a small event in the Royal Cinema to celebrate their upcoming fall lineup, showing a selection of the adult-orientated animation that will soon be on the channel. The lineup includes the long-overdue Sealab 2021, Frisky Dingo (from the creators of Sealab 2021), Moral Orel (created by Mr. Show alumni, including Jay Johnston), and Metalocalypse, which was created by Brendon Small (who is best known for Home Movies) and Tommy Blacha (known from a variety of things including Da Ali G Show and Late Night with Conan O’Brien).
Metalocalypse stars “Dethklok,” the biggest metal band in the world—so big they’re the twelfth largest economy on earth. Brendon and Tommy were on hand to answer questions about their show, pimp the upcoming Dethklok album, and sign autographs, but perhaps the highlight of the evening was when they attempted to play “Thunderhorse,” the Dethklok song featured in Guitar Hero II, on the Royal Cinema’s big screen. Brendon made the unfortunate choice of playing it on hard (however, having written the song you would assume he could play it), but was gracious in his suckitude, as seen in this slightly dark YouTube video.

    Nothing from Canadian animators?

One of those guys had a kickass Klaus Kinski shirt.
And, nope, rek, all four shows screened were produced by Atlanta-based Williams Street.
