McDonald's Pernicious Influence Spreads, Congrats To Gay Married Politician, and the Yankees Beat the Jays?

ariehsingermcdonalds.jpgKids think that food in a McDonald's wrapper tastes better than the same food not in the wrapper, study shows. This study confirms what many of us have long believed: namely, that children are stupid.

Reason #6147 Toronto is better than Montreal: our gonorrhea rate isn't exploding upwards. The article even points out that Montreal gonorrhea is tougher and more antibiotic-resistant than Toronto gonorrhea—that's how bad their gonorrhea problem is!

Former SCTV actor Tony Rosato is finally going on trial after two years, assuming jurisdictional issues can be resolved. Normally at this point Torontoist would reference one of Rosato's famous sketches or characters. However, Tony Rosato has no particularly famous sketches or characters. Just try to imagine Ed Grimley or something. That's probably close enough.

Ontario Health Minister George Smitherman got himself hitched! Why is this news? Because he's the first gay Cabinet member to get married. Torontoist congratulates the happy couple, and promises not to mock provincial health issues until after the honeymoon or, you know, if we get bored or something.

And the Jays got beat by the Yankees 5–4. Goddamn Yankees...

Wow, that's unnecessarily nasty, the whole Tony Rosato case is just sad for all concerned and there's not much funny about it.

FYI, Smitherman was the first out cabinet minister but not the first cabinet minister who is married and gay. That distinction goes to Kathleen Wynne. Wynne has been out for years but she was appointed to cabinet after Smitherman.

I really like that Star article on Smitherman's marriage. The tone is light-hearted and sweet; no more of the sober tone usually adopted when talking about gay people marrying.
