If you’ve been treasure hunting at the AGO lately, another expedition may yield you some more in-your-face booty.
Four hundred portraits by artists hailing from three community organizations—Adelaide Women’s Art Studio, ArtHeart and Sketch—are being contributed to the ongoing In Your Face exhibition, which has already received nearly 20,000 submissions since its opening in August 2006. Currently, just over 4,000 works are on display.
Collected from the general public to showcase Canada’s mosaic diversity, these new facial additions come from artists of various groups, such as the Regent Park community, women who have experienced homelessness, and inner-city youth. These artists are being given a chance “to see their own contributions on display and feel a connection to [the AGO],” says Bev Carret, manager of government and community relations at the AGO—who has also given AGO memberships to the the art-based organizations and their artists in order to further stimulate their artistic devotion.
