Celebrating A Great Life

“Honest Ed” Mirvish passed away nearly a month ago, but Toronto is still in mourning. On Sunday, August 12, his family will be hosting a celebration of life outside of the Honest Ed’s Emporium (581 Bloor Street West) in lieu of Ed’s famous annual birthday party—he would have turned 93 on July 25.
With live music and entertainment scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the city is closing down Bloor Street between Bathurst and Markham Streets in anticipation of a big crowd. Ed would have wanted you there.

    The time has come I think for the city to name something after Mr. Mirvish. The park on the south side of King St. between Metro Hall and RTH would make an ideal Ed Mirvish Park, as it’s located across the street from his theatres and former restaurants and renaming it will skin no noses as it now bears the nobody would care if it disappeared anachronism of “Metro Hall Park”.

    I wouldn’t mind if the city names something else after Ed. But there already is a Mirvish lane,
    (that alley between the two buildings of Honest Eds), and also Mirvish Village on Markham street.
