So You Think You're Smarter Than Canada's Next Top 5th Grader?
Been looking for a way to gain fame and fortune by exploiting your kid's intelligence? Here's your chance: this Friday is the Toronto casting call for kids to be on Are You Smarter Than a Canadian 5th Grader, the Canadian version of Fox's Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader (in case you couldn't tell). Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at The Fairmont Royal York at 100 Front Street West. You can download the application here. But be warned: this stuff's harder than it sounds. We may or may not have just taken the online quiz, and may or may not have gotten half the questions wrong. Not a big deal.
Anyway, does anyone else find it sort of obnoxious that it's Canadian 5th Grader? I mean, we understand Canadian Idol, but it's not Are You Smarter Than an American 5th Grader? so why do we need to stick "Canadian" into our version? It only highlights the fact that it's just another Canada-fied American series, suggesting that our feeble Canadian minds could never come up with such genius on our own (with, of course, the notable exception of the classic Road Hockey Rumble). And it begs the uneasy question: how long until they're pitting us against each other in the 5th Grader Road Rules Challenge: Americans vs. Canadians???
And anyway, if we are trying to make it all Canadian-like, what about this "5th Grade" business? How many Canucks do you know that say "5th Grade?" Although we have to admit, Are You Smarter Than a Grade 5-er? doesn't quite have the same ring to it...

Right on - really should be something referencing "Grade 5". Lame!
17/20, stiffing on the Group of Seven question and both French questions. Thus proving that I will never amount to anything in politics.
Let's skip this show and go right to Are Canadians Smarter Than Americans?
(15/21 - but I never learned anything about art or music before grade 6, thanks to moving so often and the different curricula across the province. I still don't know anything about the Group of 7...)
