Weekly indie institution Wavelength started in 1999, setting up shop at Ted's Wrecking Yard, then bouncing between venues until landing at its current home, Sneaky Dee's, in 2002. Past performers read like a who's-who of home grown indie music: Great Lake Swimmers, The Bicycles, Cadence Weapon, Julie Doiron, Peaches, Final Fantasy, Feist—and the list goes on.
After a Canada Day hiatus, the Sunday night series is back with a stellar July lineup for its live show element (a monthly zine is the other part of the equation). This Sunday, Foxfire Forest, continuing the Canadian tradition of sprawling indie-pop collectives, takes the stage with visiting-from-out-West bands Carbon Dating Service and Maybe Smith.
Other highlights this month include BA Johnston (creator of an album called My Heart Is A Blinking Nintendo, featuring the track "Jesus Is From Steeltown") on July 15th, and the July 22nd show. That night will mark one of the final concerts for Quebexico—though you can catch its members in other bands, including Million Dollar Marxists—and features DJ Julie, DJ Shae and DJ Carly's OK (also known as yours truly) from Ladyfest Toronto. (Speaking of Ladyfest Toronto, applications for bands, artists, filmmakers and workshop leaders are now available on the website—hint, hint.)
Best of all, admission is on a Pay What You Can basis. Doors are at 9 p.m.
