Torontoist just bought a new bike. It's blue and shiny and for some reason hasn't been stolen yet. In celebration of this fact, here are three bike-related items we thought you'd be interested in.

First, bike racks on buses: should they stay or should they go? Come on and let us know! (Ahem.) Discussion for action is taking place at the TTC Commissioners meeting this afternoon at City Hall. The question (item 17 on the agenda) is whether or not to retrofit old buses with bike racks. 360 new buses are already being equipped with racks. What do you think?

Next, Toronto is looking for volunteers interested in serving on the Toronto Cycling Advisory Committee (TCAC). Anyone able to volunteer is encouraged to review the information package and complete an application form. You can also call Frank Baldassini, Committee Secretary, TCAC, at 416-395-7352 or e-mail him at fbalda (at) toronto (dot) ca. The deadline to receive the applications will be Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Bonus points if you send in your application by bike courier.

Finally, The City of Toronto wants to hear your comments and new ideas to set cycling priorities for the next five years. An "open house" format will allow participants to learn about the status of current city projects from staff, give feedback and comments, and participate in activities to help prioritize bike projects and timelines. Input will then be complied into a report to council, be made available on the city website, and help determine the agenda for the next public consultation session. This takes place Thursday, July 26th from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at St. Lawrence Hall (157 King Street East at Jarvis). And just in case you needed some extra motivation, valet bike parking(!) and refreshments (punch and pie?) will be available.
